Please make it cheaper
Hello.
We receive the most inquiries as we receive translation requests from many clients.
Please keep translation costs as low as possible!
How to reduce translation costs for individuals, businesses, and clients of all sizes
A lot of inquiries come in. Of course, reducing spending costs is the biggest key in any industry.
A good and cheap translation?
Above all, the cheapest translation method is to directly use machine translation classified as Google/Papago/DeepL/ChatGPT. The cost is 0 won (as of 23.04) However, when talking about cheap and good translations, machine translation is usually left out. Because the level of trust in translation is relatively lowThat's right. But that doesn't mean AI translation can't actually translate. The level of translators that are improving day by day is beyond your imagination. Nevertheless, machine translators still tend to remain amateurs in our perception. Therefore, translations that depend on a business, whether individual or group, are generally based on human translation.
Translation costs vary widely depending on the client's available budget and the level of competency of the translator. Of course, the concepts of “cheap” or “good” are strictly subjective. For that reason, there are some bad translation examples that don't seem boring at some point. If you look at places that usually represent cheap and good translations, mainly human translation, there are many places that are not cheap at all because various options are added later. Also, even if you use it cheaply, the translation quality is significantly poor, and there are many things around that need to be retranslated.
Closely, there are a few examples of our clients who first requested translation on talent trading platforms or second-hand trading platforms and were disappointed. This is definitely not the case for all freelancers working as companies or individuals registered on these platforms, but low quality translations and unsatisfactory translation experiences often result from poor quality translations and unsatisfactory translation experiences due to a certain level of language level, having a thin and short experience of translating through friends, or because they are subcontracted once the translation is received.
In this post, I've compiled content that may be helpful to those who are tired of selecting fishing advertisements and translation companies. In particular, I hope it will be helpful to all clients who are looking for inexpensive translations.
Good and inexpensive translation!
First of all, there are conditions for a cheap translation. It's about setting three main priorities.
1. Translation qualityTo what extent will it be done?
The first is to determine mutually acceptable translation quality in advance through communication.
If you use artificial intelligence translation as a standard and communicate results by comparing it with human translation, you can translate quickly and under reasonable conditions. You can also estimate how the translation will be done through sample translations. Quality improves and costs tend to increase as a person's creative (creative) ability or expertise in each field is added.
2. Translation volumeHow long is this?
Second, the higher the translation volume, the lower the translation cost.
Also, if translation is carried out frequently with periodicity, of course, translation will be cheaper within the agreed range.
3. Translation timeHow long will this take?
Third, the cost of translation varies depending on how long it takes to request a translation and receive the final translation.
Strictly speaking, it depends on how much communication costs for translation can be automated. The translation process actually doesn't take that long. The time required for the entire cycle is usually carried out within 3 days from the same day in the industry, and translation costs can be reduced if there is plenty of work time compared to the volume. Of course, the opposite is true if you have to handle a large amount on a tight schedule.
Various variables, such as security, also affect translation costs, but translation costs must be considered by prioritizing the three parts above. Make sure that the translation volume and quality can be a win-win situation while maintaining an appropriate unit price.
In the post below, I'll show you an example of how the Gicon team actually carried out translation work based on priorities.
Examples of famous broadcasters
Our client (broadcaster) mainly entrusted me with drama/entertainment content. The Gicon team translates an average of about 40,000 words of broadcast/entertainment content per day in English ▶ Korean subtitlesI proceeded with the work. Because most of us are systematized Processes an average of 1 million words per monthI did, and until recently, I dedicated myself to translating all of the broadcaster's YouTube content.
At the time, the content was translated at a very low cost through communication.
There were a few reasons why translation was cheap.
1. Source content was prepared to continuously provide a large amount of content (= 40,000 words or more per day),
2. The translation quality of the content is slightly better than Google or Papagoin
3. Is it possible to handle mass translation on its ownI put a little more weight on it.
40,000 words per day. Are you feeling it?!
Before looking at how the Gicon team translated, do you get a sense of the number of 40,000 words translated per day?
How much is 40,000 words a dayWill it be translated in one day?
4 hours for movies/ 200 pages/ 30 songs for songs/over 20 webtoons The amount to be processed.
Of course, the amount of translation can vary depending on the amount of text and content. This is an estimate calculated based on the premise of “colloquial entertainment translation” carried out by the Gicon team by changing the figure of 40,000 words to a different format to help you understand.
Below are a few examples from the Gicon team that show the quality level of mass translation.
Please refer to the actual uploaded content. Even though it's a mass translation, I can see that they paid attention to detail.
How was broadcast/entertainment content translated?
[Original Korean text] Kim Jong-min x Lim Won-hee met on the wooden bridge in 'Underwater Clash'.
English translation] 'Water Wars' Jongmin x Wonhee. Ahead on battle.
I understood the characteristics of the YouTube channel and translated the title within 80 characters. Rather than writing all of Kim Jong-min and Lim Won-hee in the title in English, the translation matches the number of characters as much as possible by subtracting “last name” and showing only the name.
Also, as you can see from the expression underwater confrontation, I translated it using elements I can relate to for readers in the Anglo-American region. (Inspired by Star Wars series Water Wars)
A wooden bridge is a localization of the Korean proverb “Enemies meet on a wooden bridge” and translated it as an expression that takes into account “a situation where you cannot step back and must face it.” (A head-on-battle)
Compared to AI translations?
Google Translat/Papago/DeepL/ChatGPT and any machine translation represented by artificial intelligence translation
I don't feel like they did a better job than the Gicon Studio team's mass translation. What about the next case?
Korean original text] -Sound wave sound wave. - Sound waves, that's right.
English translation] -Close and open. -Right, close and open.
Simply looking at the text Sound Wave, I can't figure out how to translate it. It's also the part where machine translation creates false translations. The translation must be carried out taking into account the situation and context. It's a very important part of the human communication process. In this context, breathe in and breathe out are more suitable for conveying meaning, but considering the nature of subtitles, they can convey a shorter and bolder meaning, so it seems like a good translation.
[Original English text] With Jing An and our new family member, Jung-woo,
This time, I would like to greet you like this again.
English translation]
We're back here with Jeong-an and our new family, Jung-woo.
This is the part where the spoken text is translated. The phrase “I greet you again this time” is also a translation that is difficult for machine translation to apply. I need more paraphrases that understand the context of greetings rather than comments expressed in literal translation.
So I localized the greeting expression We're back, which is simple but captures the meaning of the original text.
How did artificial intelligence translate?
Even though it is a mass translation that translates 40,000 words per day, it is differentiated from artificial intelligence translation and shows this level of quality.
If you want a cheap and excellent translation due to the volume of translations, please ask the Gicon team!
We'll work together and do our best to help you.
