Have you ever thought about the translation process? I don't think it's a topic you have a chance to think about unless you're a worker. So I brought this as the subject of today's letter. I'm going to focus on what kind of process a translation goes through until it comes into my hands, especially the job of translator and translation PM.
What is the translation process like?
Of course, the translation itself is done by a translator, but if you look at this process, you'll also notice that it's not that simple. If you look at the process from request to delivery, you have no choice but to go through several intermediate steps unless the translator and client make a direct transaction. It's not that, it takes the effort of many people to create a single translation result. Among them, I would like to explain the relationship between translators and translation PMs. In fact, this relationship is also established when you go through a translation company.
If you entrust the translation to a translation company, translators will perform the translation under the management of the PM in charge at the translation company. Since I only write it down like this, I think it's just a role of delivering the file received to the client, but it's not that simple when you look at it. Since the translator must provide answers to questions about the work and also provide additional information, in conclusion, I think I can explain that the PM in charge also plays a role in participating in the translation. Therefore, it is very important that the translator and the PM in charge get along well. It's no exaggeration to say that the quality of the translation project ultimately depended on this collaboration.
What does PM mean for translators
For translators, a translation PM is someone who helps them focus only on translation. First of all, they also deliver good news because they send work requests and translation requests. It is also the most important role to act as a bridge between the client and the translator. I think that being able to focus on one's work without worrying about other parts of the translation process can be interpreted as a translation PM doing his part.
What does a translator mean to a translation PM
So what does translator mean to a translation PM? It depends on the size of the translation project, but in most cases, one PM often communicates with multiple translators. Most of the time, I don't know how the day is going to go in order to handle everything the client asks for and the translator's questions on their behalf. Still, I think it's right for the translation PM to trust the translator and act as a spokesperson for that project.
