In my last post, I learned about artificial intelligence that has written literary works such as poems, novels, and screenplays. However, even though I've looked at various examples of artificial intelligence creations, a question that is still difficult to answer continues to circulate in my head.
If so, can literature written by artificial intelligence be considered creative? I was able to explore a third direction through an interview with the novelist Kim Young-ha, which I stumbled upon while worrying. The novelist's opinion is, “Unlike humans who are limited by their sense of adventure, artificial intelligence can write excellent sentences. However, it would be difficult to write a good novel that can be read continuously without losing interest by placing sentences in the right place. ' That was it. *
Artificial intelligence may be able to write excellent sentences with new expressions we haven't seen before. Or, some strange or strange sentence written by artificial intelligence might be judged as more literary. However, it is expected that it will not be easy for a machine to understand the human mind to write a long novel that we can read to the end without losing interest.
However, it seems difficult to predict the future at this time when we still don't know the exact capabilities and limitations of human intelligence. Until just a few decades ago, it was unthinkable that humans would write using digital devices instead of manuscripts. Rather than making a hasty decision, I would like to first consider the creative activities of artificial intelligence in various fields at this time and think a little more.

The advent of artificial intelligence to compose music
Music is a field where the potential of artificial intelligence has attracted attention since the beginning.
Already in the 1950s in the United States, computer iliac (iliac) ** analyzed songs from the 16th century and created “The Illiac Suite for the String Quartet (The Illiac Suite for the String Quartet)” using mathematical methods. They used mathematical composition to create music, just as great classical composers like Haydn and Bach wrote according to strict Mars laws.
Since then, machines have learned existing music, and there have been various attempts to create music based on it. Furthermore, as machine learning technology developed, the degree of perfection of computer-composed music also improved. Among them, artificial intelligence is particularly recognized for its outstanding ability to compose classical music.
The most famous moment was when the London Symphony Orchestra (London Symphony Orchestra) performed a song called “Transits-Intoan Abyss (Transits-Intoan Abyss)” in 2012. *** A world-renowned orchestra played a song created by a machine named Iamos (Iamos), which caused an issue. Ironically, it shows that the era of artificial intelligence making music has opened up in the classical music industry, which is considered conservative.
Artificial intelligence composing music through deep learning
Since then, artificial intelligence using deep learning to compose songs has appeared one after another.
One example is Aiva****, who wrote the OST for the movie by learning more than 30,000 existing songs, and actually performed and recorded songs composed by Ava at Sony Pictures in LA, USA. ***** In particular, Ava is also the****** first artificial intelligence composer to receive copyright recognition for her creative work by the French and Luxembourg Music Copyright Association (SACEM).
Ava is based on deep learning algorithms using Reinforcement Learning (Reinforcement Learning) ******* technology. Reinforcement learning is the same method used by artificial intelligence to learn optimal numbers in games such as chess and Go, by learning what actions are optimal in the current state. In other words, Ava learned how to compose music that fits better and has good reviews through countless studies.
Also, in 2016, Google announced the artificial intelligence development project Magenta (Magenta) and released music composed by artificial intelligence using TensorFlow, a machine learning technology. ******** Meanwhile, Sony also released two songs created by the self-developed artificial intelligence flowmachines (flowmachines). Flow Machines created a new song by analyzing about 13,000 existing songs, and it is said that they created a style of music similar to songs by famous musicians such as The Beatles.
Limitations and possibilities of artificial intelligence to compose music
Artificial intelligence can compose hundreds or thousands of songs a day. Furthermore, it can be thought that it has already surpassed human ability in terms of composing songs based on the results of learning many famous songs from the past.
However, if you know an artificial intelligence composer like this, it was created through detailed coordination and intervention by human developers, just like writing. Also, you can't play or sing songs you've written yourself. All of these parts must rely on delicate human touch. After all, although there is a difference in degree, it is still more accurate to think that music is played through collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence.
Nevertheless, “Can we say that there is a fundamental difference between the experience of being moved by listening to music composed by artificial intelligence and music composed by humans?” I have a question. Furthermore, I have no confidence to unconditionally assume that works of art created by humans are more valuable than those created by artificial intelligence.
It's clear that AI's presence is growing more and more in various creative fields. Next, after literature and music, I'll look at examples in the field of art, and summarize how to look at artificial intelligence creation.
