Why Do Translators Need Translation Tools or CAT Tool?

Getting Started

A translator is a job for someone who is fluent in certain language. You must have not only an understanding of the language but also knowledge of the culture to produce a translation in a very high quality. Because of that premise, many people think that translators can do it in the blink of an eye without much help. However, if you look at the scene, you can see that the reality is far from that. So, it is natural to use tools to improve translation accuracy and enable fast translation.

So, translators try to find a useful tool or CAT tool. There are a lot of different translation tools out there, including free ones, paid software from overseas, and Letterworks which is a subscription-type CAT tool. Today, I'm going to write about why CAT tool is important to translators, what it serves, and what makes Letterworks attractive as a CAT tool.

What Is CAT Tool?

To easily define CAT tool, it can be considered as a general term for software that translates with the help of a computer. When I say this, it's easy to come up with Google Translator and Papago Translator that we often use. Strictly speaking, they're just translators, not CAT tools. Before I proceed with the article in earnest, I would like to tell you that there are many different CAT tools. Including our Letterworks, many translation tools are being actively used. So, in what specific ways do CAT tools, especially Letterworks, help translators?

Enables Consistent Translation, TM

TM, which ensures a faster translation and maintains translation consistency by finding previous translations similar to the original text, is an essential function for many translators. This is done by clicking on a given segment and showing the match rate with the previously translated sentence next to it. This allows a consistent translation to be maintained, resulting in more complete results.

Enables Fast and Highly Accurate Translation, TB

To put it simply, TB can be understood as a dictionary of terms. You can directly register the frequently used terms in Letterworks. You can register using the Excel file and check whether the content has been applied properly while working. Using this will maintain consistency and even play a significant role in reducing translation work time.

Collaborate More Efficiently, Manager-only Features

When working on translation, sometimes multiple people collaborate on one work. As this is often, Letterworks provides manager-only features to help collaboration done more efficiently. Not only can you assign each project to a worker, but you can also check the progress on the history page. This is one of the features that helps the managers complete projects more efficiently with translation work that is highly collaborative.

How to Use Letterworks

You can use Letterworks, which provides such useful CAT tool services, through subscription. We provide services making differences in the number of characters, video time, and number of groups that can be created. You just can select the service you want to subscribe to by considering the amount and time of the project you will work on. You can also customize the service through Enterprise, so it would be good to use the CAT tool service by choosing a plan that suits you.
