Until the 1990s, if you wanted to learn programming, you had to look for specialized books or go to school or a specialized educational institution. It became possible to obtain or learn necessary information through online clubs only after computerized bulletin board systems, such as Chollian and Nownuri, became widespread.
And not long after, you started hearing TV commercials talking about "computers that can access the Internet." Until then, the Internet was only used by a very small number of people in a limited environment. Then, with the popularization of personal computers, the full-fledged Internet era began.
Now anyone can easily access websites around the world and freely exchange information. We connect with others living in other regions or countries in real time and share news with them easily.
With the advent of Google, we can find more information faster. Just by searching on Google, we can easily find documents and web pages containing high-quality information. For example, if you are a student who is good at Googling, you will be able to increase your competitiveness by finding the latest materials and information from overseas and using them in your studies.
However, most content on the Internet is written in English. So, if you only look at Korean materials, you will inevitably miss out on the vast amount of content on the Internet. Conversely, sharing Korean content internationally is not without its challenges. Due to the added work of translation, Korean content viewed abroad is unlikely to be up-to-date.
After all, understanding the original text is essential to keeping up with the latest information and trends. Since most information on the Internet is still written in English, understanding English documents is very important.
The most important deliverable at work is still documents. It is true now, 20 years ago, and even 200 years ago. Documentation is necessary for people to communicate, record, remember, and convey everything from planning to progress and completion.
Modern people also read documents written long ago, such as myths, scriptures, and classics. Writing has always been the best way to preserve and pass on what we learn, think, and feel. And it will likely continue to be so in the future. No matter how much speech recognition or storage technology develops, it will be difficult to create an interface that is more comfortable for humans than writing.
It's often called innovation to come up with something that hasn't existed before. But is it truly innovation if whatever new you create doesn't deliver sustainable value to users?
At Twigfarm (twigfarm.net), we're passionate about new technologies and want to create useful value for the world with them. However, we have no desire to create new value that has never existed in the world. We'd rather want to take something that has been, is, and will be valuable and make it more valuable by applying new technologies to it.
That's why we're focusing on text language. Because we firmly believe that writing is an enduring value that will never go away. We create a variety of technologies and services that can be used for practical translation and content management so that anyone can use content written in Korean as well as other languages comfortably.
We believe that LETR*, a language processing engine that processes (translates) and verifies using neural network-based technology, and heybunny*, a service that reads content without language barriers based on LETR, are important steps on the path we have chosen.
